microDimensions Zoom is a free of charge digital pathology viewer for fast visualization of whole slide images and image series. It supports all major proprietary as well as generic file formats.

I am really glad that microDimensions provides a free digital pathology viewer that can even open proprietary TIFF files that most other viewers can’t handle. The feature to adjust or hide channels in the Zoom side bar is excellent!

Versatile

Zoom can read formats from 3DHISTECH (.mrxs), Aperio (.svs), Hamamatsu (.ndpi, .ndpis, .ndpr, .vms, .vmu), Huron (.tiff), Leica (.scn), Nikon (.nd2), Olympus (.vsi), (Zeiss (.czi), and other widely-used (.ims, .jpeg, .mha, .nii, .tiff) file formats. Images can be in 8 or 16 bit and be acquired by brightfield, electron microscope, fluorescence, laser scanning, or other systems and scanners.

It supports an unlimited number of channels, that can be turned on and off individually. Simple adjustments of the rendering settings (brightness, contrast, gamma) can be made through a sidebar menu.

Multiple Image Analysis

With Zoom you can load and view of a series of previously aligned images such as 3D reconstructions or images with different staining that have previously been aligned with Slidematch. With the peephole function two aligned images can be viewed at the same time, e.g. to compare the response of tumors to different biomarkers.

Easy Collaboration

Zoom is a lightweight piece of software to easily view, share, and discuss cases. The annotations feature offers the possibility to mark areas of interest, add comments and share these with others. For easy editing and comparison of areas of interest annotations can be copied to the other images of a series or volume. Annotations can also be imported from and exported to Aperio ImageScope.

Zoom requires Microsoft Windows 7 (SP1), 8, or 10 (64 bit versions only).
