Voloom 2.5: Full-Resolution Whole Volume Export

microDimensions today released an update to Voloom, its world leading 3D histology software for the fast reconstruction of serial sections. microDimensions Voloom 2.5 now provides deformable full-resolution export of whole reconstructed volumes. This makes it easy to further process and analyze reconstructed volumes with other solutions in the same resolution as the original whole slide images. Full-resolution volumes can be stored as Bitplane Imaris .ims files, with more export formats to come in the future. Alignments can also be pre-computed up to the full resolution during the reconstruction process, so that subsequent visualization, analysis, and export is sped up significantly.

Moreover, version 2.5

  • is compatible with OpenGL 3.3 capable Intel graphics boards,
  • implements a new intelligent section ordering algorithm,
  • improves the MDV format and loading times for fully registered data sets, and
  • adds support for non-standard DPI settings and retina displays.

For more information please visit the Voloom product page micro-dimensions.com/voloom.

High-Resolution 3D Histology with Voloom 2.4

microDimensions today released a major update of its flagship product Voloom, the fastest software in its class to reconstruct serial sections and facilitate 3D histology. microDimensions Voloom 2.4 can export fully aligned sections in a resolution four times higher than the screen resolution. They can be stored as image series or 3D volumes in the TIFF, IMS (Bitplane Imaris), or MHA (ITK MetaImage) file formats.

Furthermore,

  • it now supports reading Hamamatsu NDPI and Aperio SVS confocal images and Z stacks,
  • handling of electron microscopy images is improved,
  • wrong or missing metadata can be corrected by manually specifying in-plane pixel spacing and background color,
  • the user interface was improved,
  • and, besides other enhancements, saving and loading on Korean Windows installations was fixed.

For more information please visit the Voloom product page micro-dimensions.com/voloom.

microDimensions Enhances Stereology and 3D Histology Applications

microDimensions today announced new versions of its digital pathology applications Outspace™ and Voloom®. The updates address some of the most important features requested by its customers and are available to all clients with an active maintenance plan.

Outspace significantly accelerates the process of unbiased volume estimation through the use of computer-assisted stereology based on Cavalieri’s principle. It comes now in version 1.1 and

  • supports editing all sections during reconstruction,

  • allows to enable and disable all Cavalieri crosses within the current region of interest,

  • features an overview image to improve user navigation and orientation,

  • consumes less system memory,

  • and has an improved graphical user interface during analysis.

For more information please visit the Outspace product page micro-dimensions.com/outspace.

Voloom reconstructs serial sections and facilitates 3D histology in a matter of minutes. Version 2.3 will be released on 9 March 2015 and

  • supports Carl Zeiss Axio Scan.Z1 .czi whole slide images,
  • allows to manually specify the image modality in the reconstruction wizard,
  • exports the actual number of stains during stained Bitplane Imaris .ims export,
  • and improves background color estimation on fluorescence data sets.
